About RSVC …

When RSVC was formed in the early 1970’s, the members elected Betty Kenly as President, She was an Arizona resident who, at that time, had one of the most prominent Vizslas in America. Marge Mehagian was elected as Secretary. Marge has continued to be an active Vizlsa owner and is still an RSVC member.

The goal of the Club was to become recognized by the American Kennel Club so we could hold AKC shows and field events. That goal was accomplished within two years and we are still at it.

Our members are very busy with training and competing. In addition to that, they find time to attend two big social events every year – the Holiday Party and the Annual Awards Banquet. In between we hold a few General Membership Meetings to update everyone on upcoming events, hold educational seminars, and share stories about our great dogs.

RSVC Offers ….

Training – We organize training sessions for general socialization, basic obedience, show handling, and hunting tests. More experienced club members work with the new people and their dogs to get them started to train for participating in an event.

Specialties – These events are where only one breed is exhibited in a dog show. There are several classes to choose from when entering your dog. In order to enter, your dog must be at least 6 months old on the day of the show. For more information on dog shows go to www.akc.org/rules/conformation.cfm.

Obedience Trials – These are events where your dog demonstrates his ability to follow specific obedience routines. There are several classes to choose from when entering your dog. In order to enter, your dog must be at least 6 months old on the day of the trial. For more information on obedience trials go to www.akc.org/rules/obedience.cfm.

Canine Good Citizen – This event was designed by AKC to build good will in the community by showing that dogs can be friendly, obedient, and an asset to our lives. It is not a competition, but more a demonstration of how a companion dog should act in public. There is no age requirement to participate in the Canine Good Citizen. For more information on this event go to www.akc.org/events/cgc/index.cfm.

Hunting Tests – These are events where your dog gets to “do what comes naturally” for a Vizsla – HUNT!  The goal of this event is for your dog to demonstrate a keen desire to hunt and find birds. Game birds, such as bobwhite quail, are often used. The birds are placed in areas closely resembling natural cover. The dog must locate and point at the area where the bird is hidden. There are several levels to enter, depending on your dog’s level of expertise. In order to enter, your dog must be at least 6 months old on the day of the hunting test. For more information on hunting tests go to www.akc.org/rules/hunting_pointing_breeds.cfm.

Versatility – This event was developed by the Vizsla Club of America. It combines conformation (show), obedience, and hunting. It truly showcases the Vizsla breed. For more information on Versatility go to the Vizsla Club of America website at clubs.akc.org/vizsla/versatility/htm.
